     The MELT Method FAQ's

What is MELT? The MELT Method is a self care system designed to help you eliminate physical and mental stress that accumulates from daily living before it causes persistant pain and dysfunction. Soft balls, rollers and breathwork techniques boost the body's natural healing mechanisms with self-myofascial restorative techniques that stimulate your connective tissue (fascia). This helps rehydrate the connective tissue cells.

Can I MELT if I have chronic pain, disorder or disease?

Yes! MELT has helped thousands of people who have connective tissue disorders, chronic fatigue, arthritis, neurological disorders, fibromyalgia, and many other inflammatory and systemic issues. Over time, MELT heightens the body's ability to repair and heal itself, which can create remarkable, lasting changes.

Is MELT like Yoga, Pilates, Reflexology, or physiotherapy?

MELT complements and enhances all types of exercise, but it is not an exercise programme. However, I do incorporate MELT techniques into the Pilates classes that I teach. MELT also enhances the results of hands-on therapeutic interventions, including reflexology, massage, physiotherapy and mental health therapies.

What is fascia?

Do you ever get up after sitting for a long time, or maybe getting up out of bed in the morning and feeling stiff and achy like you've just aged 20 years? Well that's your fascia talking! It's a pre-pain signal alerting you that your fascia needs some TLC!

Fascia is a three dimensional biological fabric that surrounds, connects, interpenetrates all organs, muscles, bones, and nerve fibres and gives every system in your body structural support. Fascia plays a crucial role in your body's longevity, function, and form, and keeps you feeling youthful, vibrant, and mobile.Think of fascia like a sponge. When it's hydrated it's pliable and absorbs fluids easily, but when it's dry, it's stiff and inflexible.

How often should I MELT?

If you suffer with chronic pain, you should MELT for 10 minutes a day, up to an hour before bedtime. If you're active, you can MELT before your activity to improve stability and prepare for your workout. MELT'ing after a strenuous activity eases joint compression and stiffness, assists in recovery, and restores muscle synergy.

Over time, your MELT time can increase to an hour 3-4 times a week. I personally do either a 5 minute hand or foot MELT treatment each day, and an hours' MELT class once or twice a week.

Where can I buy the MELT equipment?

If you are participating in a MELT class with me, I supply all the kit you need. If you would like to buy your own, I can supply all items. They are ordered form the USA so allow 3-4 weeks delivery if I don't have any in stock.

What does MELT stand for?

Myofascial energetic lengthening technique.
